My Baseball Audition Spring was in the air... All I thought about from the fall of 1963 to the winter of 1964 was playing baseball. Weequahic High School's baseball season started when it was still pretty cold. Around March 15, 1964 was when practice started. The first day of tryouts could not have arrived quickly enough. The season started in the gym. The weather was too cold for outside baseball.

So Close to the Hall of Fame We all have our favorite players. Arguing who was better has been a baseball ritual since the game began.
Here are some of my favorites. The distinction with these players is that they have not made it to the Hall of Fame. Heading the list of "Close Cooperstowners " are Andre Dawson, Jim Rice, Joe Jackson, Goose Gossage and Dave Parker. Each one of these athletes had great careers, full of worthy statistics that compare quite favorably to many of the incumbents.
