Effective Management Of Arthritis Pain

If you have experienced the pain of arthritis symptoms, you know how important it is to find an effective means of treating arthritis pain. Symptoms of the illness can affect many aspects of your quality of life and the level of activity that you can comfortably handle. The good news in arthritis pain is that the earlier you get a jump on treating your symptoms, the better chance you have of managing your illness effectively.

Why Does Arthritis Pain Occur?

Under normal conditions, our joints have cartilage to pad the space between the bones of the joints. Through the constant wear of life, this cartilage cushion can wear away, leaving the joint bones to rub against each other. The effects of this process can create symptoms that include swelling, stiffness, and arthritis pain. This illness is most often seen in older adults, since time seems to be one of the contributors to the illness. However osteoarthritis, the most common cause of arthritis pain, can occur in younger adults as well - particularly in adults that have been heavily involved in sports or those who have had jobs that require repetitive motions of one sort or another.

How Is Arthritis Pain Treated?

The most common treatment for arthritis pain is medication that will relieve the swelling and discomfort caused by the joint damage. Arthritis pain management is essential in controlling the progression of the disease, since continued use of the affected joints and muscles is an important part of keeping additional symptoms at bay. When you hurt, you tend to not use the part of your body that is causing you pain. By controlling this pain, you have a better shot at staying active, and exercise will keep your muscles strong and flexible.

There are a number of types of medications to choose from for treating your arthritis pain. Over-the-counter medications that can reduce inflammation as well as treat pain are probably your best bet. Ibuprofen or naproxen may be all that is required to keep arthritis pain under control. If over-the-counter drugs do not seem to do the trick sufficiently, there are prescription medications that your doctor can try for relief as well.

Arthritis can be a difficult illness to cope with, but arthritis pain doesn't have to keep you from enjoying all of the activities you love. With early intervention, regular exercise and the proper medication, you can enjoy an active life with or without an arthritis diagnosis.
