You can save money on your airfare if you know where to look and how to shop. Seat prices vary, so much so that if you were to ask your fellow passengers what they paid for their tickets you could see price differences ranging from 10-75%! To get the biggest discounts requires a bit of savvy on your part. Are you ready to find out how you can save? If so, read on and we'll explore several money saving options in vogue today.

Fly Off Peak - The cheapest fares can be had on off peak travel days which are from Tuesday to Thursday and on Saturday. Fly on certain holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas and you may receive an especially good deal. Also, fly on September 11th and the fares are cheap too as not many folks want to fly on the anniversary of the U.S. terrorist attacks.

Shop Online - Many airlines want you to shop online instead of tying up their people resources by calling in for a ticket. As a reward for your online shopping, you can find tickets discounted by 5-10% off of regular fare prices.

Show Some Flexibility - Unless you absolutely must fly on a certain day, if you show some flexibility you can save a bundle. Fly by fare amount, not date and time and you'll dig up the best deals going.

Shop the Travel Sites - Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline, and others list the best prices going. Compare prices between the different carriers and consider flying to a smaller airport {Midway v. O'Hare} to turn up the best deals.

Go Regional - Regional carriers such as Chautauqua, Comair, and Colgan often have the lowest fares available. Sometimes their flights are tied in with a major airline such as Delta so you can get airline miles too.

Go Discount Carriers - Southwest, JetBlue, easyJet, Air Berlin, USA3000, AirTran, Ryanair, and others offer airfare prices that are typically lower than the competition. In Europe, price wars are rampant and you could find that you can fly for pennies on the dollar or pence on the pound!

Package Deals - If you need a rental car and a hotel, shop for a package deal that includes those two items with your airfare. Sometimes the overall package deal can bring to you the best savings.

While not as common, you can always walk up to the airline's window, show your i.d., and ask for their best rate on the spot for their next flight. Westjet and Virgin Atlantic are two airlines that have offered standby fares in the past.
