If you want to learn how to salsa dance like a salsa star, follow these tips:

1) Take your time. Learning how to salsa dance is not an overnight process so don't expect to grasp it right away. Although it's easy over time, give yourself time, be patient and practice, practice, practice!
2) Purchase some salsa music! By investing in at least on salsa album you're off to a good start.

Here are some recommendations for some excellent salsa CDs:

SALSA FRESCA – This is an excellent CD "for those who love to dance salsa, not just listen to it." This compilation CD will have you grooving salsa style all night long. Its inviting rhythmic beats are particularly good for those who love to Mambo. This CD is even a keeper for non-dancers. A must have for your CD collection!
TONY VEGA GREATEST HITS – Tony Vegas has charm and Latin gentleman appeal that can be heard in his music. His musical style appeals to everyone. It is smooth and romantic yet energetic and upbeat this is an unmatched collection of Tony Vega hits from 1989-1994. His songs are infused with romantic tones and sensuous Cuban Mambo and Puerto Rican Salsa style beats.
Rough Guide: Salsa Dance ~ various artists – A huge selection of musical compilations put out under the Rough Series. Rough Guide: Salsa Dance is one of the hotter Latin music themed albums to be released to date. Volume 2 is also an excellent CD. The music is so hot you'll be grabbing your dancing shoes the minute you press play.
Ultra Mix: The Best of Salsa - "Every salsa lover should have this in their collection." Some say its best suited for listening. Others are convinced it's one of the best compilation discs for dancing. But Salsa lovers who have bought it all agree its good music. Decide for yourself.
3) If you're not one to pick up beats easily, count out loud until you are able to synchronize the music and the dance steps become second nature.
4) Plan on taking at least two classes a week, with at least one practice session; if you want to learn (more is better).
5) Practice Good Hygiene! Make sure you're clean and ready to go. Breath mints, gum, deodorant and cologne are every salsa dancer's best friend. Believe me; your partner will love you for it!
6) Take Small Steps, and practice shifting your weight from one foot to the other, staying on the balls (front) of your feet.
No, I mean it - Smaller Steps - a good guide is steps no larger than the size of your own shoeprint!
7) Wear comfortable shoes and breathable clothing. Cotton fabrics are always a good choice.
8) HAVE FUN! We only get one shot at life, enjoy it!
